Viagra Professional, widely referred to as Viagra Pro, is one of the more well-known and enhanced versions of Viagra to hit the pharmaceutical shelves. As with all the variations of the erectile dysfunction (ED) treatment, the fundamental ingredient in Viagra Pro is sildenafil citrate which helps in achieving and maintaining penile erection needed to consummate the sex act.

Who Should Not Take It

  • women or children
  • patients who are being treated with nitrates (like nitroglycerin)
  • patients who are using a guanylate cyclase stimulator medication called riociguat (such as Adempas)
  • users of recreational drugs known as “poppers” (amyl nitrate)
  • those who are hypersensitive to sildenafil citrate and other ingredients in Viagra Pro

How Does Viagra Professional Function?

There is an enzyme in the body called phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) that regulates cell signaling. Viagra Pro acts by hindering the function of PDE5 thereby relaxing the smooth muscle of and intensifying blood supply to the male organ. Viagra Pro works only when there is an undeniable desire for sex. There is no danger of unwanted or ill-timed erection.

When To Inform Your Doctor

Before taking Viagra Pro, it is essential to tell your doctor if you experienced the following medical conditions:

  • cardiovascular maladies (ex., heart attack, heart failure, uneven heartbeat, chest pain, constricted aortic valve)
  • a heart operation in the past 6 months
  • a stroke
  • pulmonary hypertension

You should also declare all the medications, prescribed or otherwise, that you have taken or are taking as these may interact with your usage of Viagra Pro and cause adverse reactions. The following are particularly emphasized:

  • alpha-blockers
  • HIV protease inhibitors

The Proper Way of Taking Viagra Professional

As with any medication, it is your doctor’s decision on what is the right dosage for your condition. Viagra Pro is available in 50mg and 100mg tablets. The standard recommendation is 50 mg. If this proves inadequate, 100mg is then given. Do not go beyond the maximum dose of 100mg per day. If there is an accidental overdose, get emergency care immediately. Depending on the individual’s response to the drug, Viagra Pro can be taken as early as 15 minutes-1 hour before engaging in sex. Its effect may last from 4-12 hours. It is best to take Viagra Pro on an empty stomach but it can be ingested with food. However, having a large meal, especially one that includes greasy and fattening foods, consuming alcohol and eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice before using the medication can delay or weaken the desired reaction.

Important Safety Information You Should Always Consider

Do not take Viagra Professional in combination with these medicines:

  • These are drugs used to treat chest pain or angina.
  • Riociguat (Adempas). This treats pulmonary arterial hypertension and chronic-thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension

A mix of nitrates or riociguat with Viagra Pro can lower your blood pressure to dangerous levels and will cause you to feel lightheaded, lose consciousness, have a heart attack or stroke.

  • Do not take Viagra Pro if you have allergic reactions to sildenafil citrate and other ingredients in Viagra Pro.
  • Inform all your healthcare providers that you are using Viagra Pro. If you seek emergency medical assistance for a heart problem, you must let your healthcare provider know when you last took Viagra Pro. Call for medical help immediately when you experience chest pain, vertigo or nausea during sex.
  • Viagra Pro offers no protection against sexually transmitted infections, including HIV (human immunodeficiency virus).
